Next up was Xiotech. Leveraging their ISE technology, Xiotech has been gaining traction and attention in the mid-tier data center for the last few years. With the addition of their new CEO Alan Atkinson, their goal is to extend that success into the larger enterprise. They also announced they are the first with results with the Storage Performance Council’s new benchmark extension; SPC Benchmark 1/Energy (SPC-1/E). The results show that Xiotech can deliver energy savings, and consequently cost savings, in production data centers. They do this by using a wake on a LAN type of feature that allows them to power down and power up their data packs in an automated fashion.

Overall Xiotech's business remains strong. Their customer often does not have a storage administrator but instead is an IT Generalist that needs a system simple enough to operate that it does not consume their day with storage related tasks. They continue to do well in server virtualization and Exchange email storage projects. The thing that many miss with Xiotech, including me, is how well the box performs. This should serve them well, especially as they make their push into the larger data center.
