This weekend I was in a local computer store and there was a sale on 1TB hard drives, which as you may have guessed, I couldn’t resist. I picked one up even though I didn’t really need additional capacity in the DroboElite. I was not at the store to get additional storage, this was purely an impulse buy. As you can see from the video, we are now using the DroboElite in production and the upgrade went smoothly as it always does. We did the upgrade while most of the servers, both production and lab, were still connected to it.

- Capacity is now an impulse buy

A point I missed in the video is that this was an Hitachi 1TB drive, the first we have used in the system. In the DroboElite we now have a mix of Seagate, Western Digital and Hitachi drives all working together. That’s really the point of the DroboElite. Easy expansion without concern for what is already in the unit or what you are adding to it. Just use the drive that makes the most sense. If you want to keep all the drives the same size, same manufacturer or same speed that’s your call. The product does not force you to hunt down a particular drive.

We are starting our third month with the DroboElite and we continue to be impressed with its capabilities and reliabilities. Thus far performance has been excellent and we have had no data loss problems.
